Are you ready for a city escape from Melbourne? Go out for a fun wine tasting day at the best wineries in Yarra Valley. The region’s cool climate offers classic styles with broad varieties. The good news is that includes sparkling wines! Not just that, also fantastic Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. No time to waste! Surely you won’t want to spend that one day drinking average wine. That’s where I come in, I selected the best wineries in Yarra Valley for you, cheers!

+ Best wineries in Yarra Valley – DeBortoli

Let’s talk cheese! The first thing that caught my eye was the super cute cheese corner where you get a very generous cheese platter to match with the wine tasting. I loved this place instantly! Let’s be honest here, selling cheese in a cellar door is simply brilliant. Why doesn’t every winery do the same? Anyway, the Chardonnay with a touch of Pinot Noir in the form of bubbles, amazing! The tip of the iceberg was probably The Old Boys, 21 Years Barrel Aged Tawny, paired with blue cheese.

If the cheese started an appetite…. The Locale Restaurant on the property is all about sharing food & wine with your loved ones. Just like in Italy, mamma mia!

+ Best wineries in Yarra Valley – Balgownie Estate

I learned an important lesson at the elegant Balgownie Estate, always be super nice to the person who is doing your tasting. You know things are going well if you get to taste a 2004 Balgownie Estate Shiraz. I was speechless, this wine is so rich but well balanced with a lovely silky aftertaste. My other (less expensive) favourites are; 2015 Estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, must try! Beside wine, they offer also luxurious accommodation, a spa and a fabulous restaurant. Do I need to say more?

+ Best wineries in Yarra Valley – Yering Station

Wine tasting is inside the original winery that dates back from 1859. This small but charismatic cellar door offers knowledgeable staff members to guide you through the award-winning wines. The Viognier and Chardonnays are absolutely beautiful. Have a look at the rest of Yering Station with its grand architecture. If you would like to have lunch at Yering Station you must call ahead, it’s a very popular place!

+ Best wineries in Yarra Valley – TarraWarra Estate

It’s easy to spend hours at TarraWarra Estate. Stroll around the extensive estate and discover its beauty. The cellar door is uniquely designed. You feel like Alice in Wonderland entering this ‘rabbit hole’. The partly underground cellar door has a large wine tasting bar and private corners to sit down and order a platter. The terrace outside under the native peppercorn trees serves you well in summer. Also check out the stylish restaurant, be aware last order for lunch is at 1 pm!
